National Preparedness Month safety education initiative aimed at reducing preventable propane-related incidents.
FEDERALSBURG, MD, UNITED STATES, August 26, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — In an effort to improve propane safety ahead of National Preparedness Month, PepUp safety officials urge those whose homes use propane to take three important steps:
1. Know what propane smells like, and have working gas and carbon monoxide detectors in your home.
2. Have a plan to evacuate and call PepUp and 9-1-1 if you smell propane or a detector alerts to the presence of gas in your home.
3. Make sure all family members know what to do in the event of a propane or carbon monoxide emergency.
In collaboration with the Propane Education and Research Council (PERC), PepUp has created a propane safety resource page at pepupinc.com/propane-safety. The page details emergency procedures and how to use propane safely, and shares PERC consumer education resources.
“Our team wants every customer to feel confident with propane,” explained PepUp Vice President of Safety and Compliance, Jeff Dean. “Know the smell of gas. Know how to shut off your tank. Keep our number close. Call us anytime you have a question about your system.”
Dean explained that PepUp technicians give every new customer a PERC safety brochure and walk them through how their propane system operates when starting service with the fuel delivery company. He encouraged Delmarva residents to talk with family members about how their propane delivery system works, how to use propane appliances safely, and how to respond in case of a propane leak.
If customers have questions about propane safety or concerns about their home’s system, Dean urged them to call PepUp right away and speak to an Energy Specialist. The main phone number is 800-638-7802, and is answered 24 hours a day. Dean asked that PepUp customers keep that number in a prominent location and save it in their phone’s contacts for fast access to PepUp’s team of propane professionals.
To give residents another opportunity to connect with the PepUp team and learn more about propane safety and preparedness, PepUp will be hosting its annual open house event at the company’s Federalsburg headquarters on Thursday, September 17, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. All local residents are invited to learn more about PepUp, enjoy complimentary food and discounted grill tank exchanges, enter to win 100 gallons of propane, and sign up to donate blood as part of PepUp’s commitment to giving back to the Delmarva community.
